Driving south, we explore the small mountain village of Kruje with its colourful old bazaar.

Guess what the lucky grandchildren are going to receive at Christmas time!?!?!?!.

Kruje castle dates back to the fifth or sixth century and is known as the hometown of its national hero Skanderbeg. He was a military commander who fought off the Ottoman forces for 25 years before his death in 1468.

This is the legendary olive tree inside the castle walls and is between 500 to 700 years old —  planted by Skanderbeg on his wedding day.

Our tour ends in the city of Tirana, Albania’s capital. Our group of 17 have been wonderful travel companions. It’s sad to say goodbye but we have great memories of our Montenegro and Albania journey together. Thanks G adventures and CEO Michael for such a well planned and wonderful tour. Safe onward travels everyone.

After finishing the tour in Tirana,  we go for a bit of a sightsee!

During the communism era (1944 to 1991) 172,000 bunkers were created – at great expense – around the outside of Albania. They were paranoid that they would be invaded. This bunker in central Tirana, commemorates the suffering and persecution of the entire population by this regime.
