Stage 2 begins!
Bev was suitably attired in the Yellow Jersey, actually rain coat, as we cycle off in light rain. It had rained most of the night too….. Nevertheless, the quiet picturesque cycle downstream along the river banks and through the tiny villages was fun. The bicycle route required us to ferry from left to right bank and back three times today which all added to the tour experience…. Whilst waiting at the ferry landing we met Peter and Saeunn from The Netherlands, who are also riding to Budapest!!
We exchanged stories etc over excellent coffee served on gold trays at a colourful floral cafe. We passed Houseboat Charters, Viking boats and interesting Austrian Inspired cabins at the camping park. The stage culminated in Aschach which was dominated by shipping and boat building until early 20th century – but today it is a sleepy riverside town.
We enjoyed a delicious lunch at La Mamma Italian Restaurant where we were pleased to eat something other than Schnitzel or sausage! Afterwards, our Dutch friends set-off to a camp further down the river and Bev and Mark booked into La Mamma Pension…. an excellent choice too!!!! …. The rain continues!!
