Stavanger

Along Norway’s dramatic North Sea coastline lies historic Stavanger, our next port of call.

Yes, it must be Wednesday because the ship lift mats are never wrong! I’m hiding amongst the mirrors there somewhere?

Let’s go ashore and explore this beautiful, charming city.

When oil was discovered in 1969 in the North Sea, Stavanger was chosen as the new oil industries onshore centre and the boom times for Stavanger and Norway began!! Offshore oil platforms alone account for around 40% of manufacturing jobs in this part of Norway. Mark And Bill, our new friend from Wollongong, visited the Petroleum Museum (click HERE for info on the museum), whilst Kerri and I enjoyed some window shopping. Streets with their colourful wooden buildings are just waiting to be photographed.

I’m not sure what this pink house was implying about my hair!!

The unique street art was also interesting & amusing.

Stavanger is home to Norway’s oldest cathedral — 1125 — which also marks the city’s founding date.
