Discovering Budapest

Thanks for all your messages of congratulations!!

Here is a snap shot of our visit to Budapest . . . . . .a lot more exercise – this time walking –  required!! . . . . oh no!!

A “Must Do” is a walking tour! This included St Stephens Church, crossing to the Buda side!! via the Chain Bridge, climbing up 200 steps (some wonky) to the Castle Hill – Palace buildings, St Matthias Church and Fisherman’s Bastion area.

We meander through the streets of the Pest side where we are staying in an apartment, walking past the Parliament and to the rivers edge. The many metal cast shoes that line the rivers edge are a sad memorial and reminder of the horrific deaths in wartime.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shoes_on_the_Danube_Bank

Our recommendations for local restaurants are:

ApaCuka – http://apacuka.com/en/ – where we celebrated our triumphant arrival into Budapest. In a beautiful garden courtyard with gourmet fusion delights at a very reasonable price.

Trófea Grill Etterem – http://www.trofeagrill.eu/en – all you can eat and drink buffet for Euro 21 per head – the food was delicious and we enjoyed our evening here with Martin and Edith – Team Black Forest!!

New York Cafe Palace – http://www.newyorkcafe.hu/main-page.html – note – booking is a GREAT idea to avoid a long queue. Expensive, so we enjoyed a cup of tea and a cake – and more celebrating with Martin and Edith!! The decor is very grand and ornate.

Our next challenge is to return safely to Passau, with our bikes by train over the next few days and continue our adventure in Aussie Bruce . . . . . . Bev’s mission is to find a shady camping with a BIGGG cold swimming pool  !!
